In this review, I’ll be telling you all about our experience with one of the budget furniture brands, Tribesigns. Find out how it went with choosing our piece of Tribesigns furniture, the instructions and assembly experience, the quality and the feel of the product.

I think it’s always helpful to read first-hand reviews, especially when choosing furniture for my home, so I hope this article helps you out with learning about the legitimacy of this brand before you buy.

Let’s start with the intro.

Intro to why we tried Tribesigns furniture

Tribesigns is a furniture company that makes budget-friendly furniture in trendy designs. We’ve been there: we moved into our first apartment as a couple and had to figure out furniture, with not much of a budget. Then we decided to move to the suburbs and needed more furniture yet again.

How did we find Tribesigns? Overall, Tribesigns kind of found us at the right moment. We didn’t have the perfect “elevated” element for our dining room, and what we needed was a sideboard, or a buffet cabinet. We decided to try a piece from Tribesigns, after finding the style I liked.

What does Tribesigns make?

Tribesigns is well-known for home office desks, home office furniture, living room products, dining room furniture, entryway cabinets and bookshelves. They also make dining tables, console tables, entryway tables, shoe storage cabinets and even reception desks for offices.

I tried to find bad reviews of any given Tribesigns product and it was actually pretty hard, so they seem well-received online.

What we got

Our dining room was lacking a formal “sideboard,” or “buffet,” as many would call it. For those who are not familiar with these more technical furniture terms, basically we needed a piece of furniture that served as storage, as well as something nice to look at, in our dining room.

The world of furniture is overwhelming, but luckily, Tribesigns made what we wanted. I was looking for something somewhat timeless (no intense trends nor big patterns). I also did not want a “faux wood” look, because we have a solid hardwood dining table, and I didn’t want any surfaces that would clash with it.

Lastly, size and cost: I did not want something too big (the room does not allow for it), and because I wanted a piece of furniture that was only a double-door cabinet with maybe a drawer or two, this kept the price down overall. In my list of ways to declutter your home, I’ve concluded that storing loose items in a cabinet can clean up a lot more than you’d think!

We chose the Wooden Storage Cabinet Sideboard with Adjustable Shelves and Drawer (the SKU is # SKU HOGA-F1880-X) from the Sideboards & Buffet Cabinet category. I liked the fact that it had two cabinet doors, a drawer on top and a more timeless design than other items I looked at from Tribesigns. The size would work well in our dining room, too.

Arrival & unboxing

Our Tribesigns sideboard cabinet shipped fast—faster than we expected. Everything was packaged well and none of the pieces got damaged in shipping.

Most furniture that you get delivered of this caliber and type (Amazon mid-range brands) come packaged with styrofoam. The styrofoam pieces get everywhere when you unpack the pieces of your furniture, and then with static, it sticks everywhere.

So, my tip is to keep a handheld vacuum nearby and sweep up the little bits as you go along building your product, because they’re bound to stick to your carpet.

Instructions

Dan built the entire Tribesigns dining room sideboard cabinet, so the following is from his point of view.

It’s nice how the screws and hardware are individually labeled. They’re labeled very well, with letters of the alphabet. I think this is better labeling than I’ve seen with other brands on this tier of furniture.

Even the furniture pieces have clear stickers, but it’s a little bit of a downside, because some of the stickers on the pieces are a little hard to get off. When you built your cabinet or your table, you may have these white circular stickers stuck on if you can’t get them off without there being a lot of stickiness.

Dan stopped peeling them off because some of them may be covered by interior corners and stuff like that.

The instructional booklet is pretty clear. Unfortunately, the drawer slide instructions were a little confusing. Dan’s recommendation is to take it slowly and read ahead; you’ll figure it out if you’re adept at this type of furniture assembly.

Dan only assembled one instruction step backwards (and had to undo it, and then rebuild). That was it for the mishaps.

Assembly

There was a little mini screwdriver that was included, and that was nice! In any case, you’ll probably want your own, unless you don’t own a tool kit (you can get the one we have).

The actual wooden pieces of the furniture are fairly sturdy.

I’d call it “on par” with IKEA quality because it requires full assembly and the weight of the furniture feels similar. All the sides are finished, but note: it is not solid wood.

Regardless, the pieces are made of decent material. They don’t feel flimsy at all.

If you have to attach the crossbeam like Dan did, that doesn’t come so easy. What he learned was to not skim through the directions: READ them—every page. That was the mistake. Make sure you read steps about installation of cams and pins if you have a piece of furniture like the one we built from Tribesigns.

Only complaint

Our big complaint is about the color of our Tribesigns buffet sideboard. In the photo below, would you say it looks kind of off-white, maybe with a hint of gray and green?

What we got, with ordering the “Grey” color (the only other choice is Brown/Wood), was what you see below. I would call it Sage Green.

VERY fortunately, I think it is a lovely color in our dining room, as our walls are kind of a gray-white-green, as it is. I didn’t dislike it enough to return it. But, if I had really wanted something specifically white-ish, to match other furniture, I would be quite surprised and probably not too happy.

My main point here is to maybe take the colors in the Tribesigns product photos with a grain of salt, and to look at user reviews on Amazon that include photos. We have a teddy rocking chair from Amazon and that one did happen to match the colors in the photos, so that was where I first got this assumption.

With the sideboard piece we got, it’s called “Wooden Storage Cabinet Sideboard with Adjustable Shelves and Drawer” (very appropriately named) and it’s discontinued already, so I can’t link you to it! I can link you to the Sideboard & Buffet Cabinet category, though, where you can see all the Tribesigns designs for this type of furniture product.

That’s another thing to know: just like some clothing brands that churn out styles fast and then discontinue them even faster, if you like something from Tribesigns, grab it while it’s available, before it goes out of stock forever.

Overall assessment of Tribesigns furniture

Based on owning a fully-assembled piece of Tribesigns furniture, we can say the following:

  • It looks just like it does in the photos on the website (EXCEPT for the color!)
  • Given the good instructions and all the labeling of the parts, setup and assembly was not too bad.
  • The piece looks good in our dining room, and we couldn’t ask for much more.

To buy this exact piece of furniture, you can find it at the Tribesigns website or at Amazon.

What is Tribesigns?

We both had never heard of Tribesigns. We started Googling reviews of the company, and they’re all okay, if not pretty good. Tribesigns mostly, if not exclusively, sells furniture and home products on Amazon, where it is the #3 seller in the Furniture category and #1 in home office desks.

If you’ve bought as much affordable home furniture as we have, you’d know that more times than not, that is where it comes from.

Tribesigns really does have a LOT of products. Their website states that they are rapidly always launching new products and designs. It’s true. This company is staying right on top of trends and making affordable budget options for people who want to furnish their homes fast, like us.
